Ian held his broom in his hand; a custom affair . . .screw Firebolts and Comets, they couldn't hold a candle to real workmanship . . . the wind was picking up slightly but it was a warm breeze. He struggled to keep his hair from being blown about but failed.

Zack, still unshaven from last nights party but looking a lot more lively than he had earlieer, walked to the pitch with his broom. A smile on his face. "Nice broom."

"Thanks much," Ian said proudly, looking at it with a smile. He lifted his head slightly and glanced at Zack's broom. "Whaddya got, anyway?"

Ian moved towards it, looking at the workmanship. "Not bad . . . but really, it's the rider that makes or breaks a race . . ."

ooc: aww . . but only fair . . . :/
"Ian. Ian Flanagan . . ." he said, and nodded to him. "And you're Zack Moore; I know your name because you're captain . . ." He stared out over the pitch and smiled at the parting clouds; the sun was burning away the dinginess of winter now; it was never too cold here but sometimes it was very gray.

Ian nodded, likewise nodding. He assumed since nothing had been mentioned, the route was the standard down the pitch, around the hoops and back . . . with one last look at Zack, his blue-green eyes alive with competitive good humor, said, "On three?"

Ian raised an eyebrow. "One," he said, and kicked off. And then he didn't look at Zack any more, only down the pitch, almost feeling like his performance in this little competition would determine whether Zack would let him on the Quidditch team or not. The wind completely wrecked his hair now, but he didn't notice, only keeping a vague awareness of where Zack was.

Zack, shocked and satiisfied at the speed of Ian's broom, had gotten off to a bit of a bad start. He leaned forward on his broom coming up close to Ian.

Ian felt the air shift as Max approached him; he leaned forward, rocking his hips forward to gain a little more speed. The trio of posts was coming up quickly; he neared the leftmost one and wrapped himself tightly against his broom, winding around and veering in a rightward semicircle tightly about them, keeping control of the arc as he finished circling and straightened his course, gaining speed as he accelerated back down the pitch.

Zack followed as quickly as he could behind, his broom never quite catching up to Ian's.
