The D20 System: No, You Can’t Transfigure That Pebble Into A Luxury Condo.
Although this is an advanced school, there are obviously any number of spells and magical things that any wizard may struggle with. Nobody is good at everything; in fact, most people are good at only a few things. And one cannot expect a 17-year-old to routinely succeed at very powerful spells. Therefore . . .we have implemented a “dice roll” to determine your success or failure in delicate situations.
On the far right of the “Add Tags” buttons when you hit reply, there is a button with the picture of a die on it. Guess what? That’s your dice roll button, yes. Click it where you want a dice roll in your post, usually at the end.
Now this will generate a number between 1 and 20. You are expected to hit this if you perform a difficult spell. To succeed, your roll must be 11 or higher. If you are attempting the IMPOSSIBLE LAST FUTILE EFFORT NO SUCCESS EXPECTED kind of spell . . . 17 or higher.
Good news! Each student will be allowed to pick on class/area of study to be exceptionally good at. This is like your major. Depending on your character’s year you get extra points to add to your roll.
1st Year-1
2nd Year-2
3rd Year-3
4th Year-4
5th Year-5
6th Year-6
7th Year-7
So, if you are performing a difficult Charm and that is your special interest, and you are a fourth year, you’d add 4 points to a roll of . . .say . . .9 . . . For a total of 13. Which would mean success. A first year would not have gotten that. See? Very simple.
Dice rolls against another character:
If you are dueling or fighting and nobody is willing to lose, put a dice roll at the end of your spell casting. The other person may then feel free to post a reply that just has their dice roll in it before writing a reply. Obviously, the higher roll wins; yes, you could add your special points to these. This is the only time double-posting is allowed in threads.
Dice rolls cannot be modified after you post. So don’t even think about cheating . . .
Feel free to PM me with any questions.
