Snakes. Snakes. Of course. It had to be snakes. They were the one thing Lexi truely hated, from the way they moved, to the scaly body of them, and everything in between. Fear overcame her, but she had always been good under pressure. Maybe that was why she was taking so many classes this semester.
"Accio brooms!" she called, her voice ringing through the air, and she slowly began backing away from the snakes. Her only plan while waiting for the brooms [if the brooms even arrived] was to continue backing up, hoping against hope that if they made no sudden movements, they would not be harmed.

Brandon was about to compliment lexi on her idea when her brooms actually arrived. From the rubble ahead, a pair of brooms zoomed towards them. On closer inspection, Brandon's hope fell. "MUGGLE BROOMS?!?!" he shouted. "you summoned MUGGLE BROOMS?!? How are we supossed to ride THEM?!?!"

Lexi stared, in shock, at the brooms that lay before them, then burst out laughing. She seemed to forget about the danger they were both in as the irony flooded her senses. Muggle brooms. Of course, that was just her luck.
"We could always... beat them away?" Lexi suggested, still giggling as she continued to back away, the snakes advancing on them at a quicker pace.

"I g-guess," Brandon said weakly, holding his broom as a weapon. He watched the snakes intently. They all seemed to be following the actions of that one python. "See that python?" he asked, pointing to it. "I think it's in charge. Kill it and I think the others will flee. He used Diffindo to carve the edge of the broom handle to a point, and charged at the snake with is make-shift spear.

Lexi couldn't help but cringe at the thought of him killing something, even if it was a snake and was trying to kill them. However, she knew it had to be done for them to survive. Not daring to close her eyes, though she so desperately wanted to, she leaned against a large rock and watched, hopeful, as Brandon charged towards the snake. Deciding to only help if needed, she watched intently and held her wand out in front of her. Just in case.

Brandon dove for the python, digging his spear straight through the snake, like a giant shish kabob. As the snake died, it sank its fang into Brandon's arm. Brandon cried in pain. He had defeated the snake and all of its entourage, but at the price of his own life. Brandon felt the poison make its way through his veins. He looked at Lexi fo help, tried to stay something, but could not speak as he fell to the ground, unconscious

Oh Merlin. Sure enough, as the python died, the other snakes disappeared into thin air, as if they had never been there in the first place. But, Lexi didn't pay attention to that. Running over to the boy, she riflied through her pockets. Something must be able to cure poison. Something. Anything.
Her hand closed around a soft, wrinkled ball, and she pulled it out of her pocket and gazed at it. Of course. A bezoar. Taking no time to think about it, she shoved it into his mouth, hoping that he'd be okay.

Brandon stirred slowly. "Thanks..." he said weakly. "But i just got to ask......Why do you have a beozar stone just lying around in your pocket?" He laughed softly.

"Left over from Potions. I'm taking a couple courses this semester." she told him, laughing slightly as well. "Lucky I did though, right? Or else you wouldn't be here to laugh..."
Holding out her hand to help him up, she turned back to their final destination. It seemed as eerie as ever, and Lexi dreaded finding out what other obstacles lay in store for them. But, there was only one way to find out.

Brandon grasped onto Lexi's hand and pulled himself up. Brushing himself off, he sighed. "I guess it's now or never," he said.

"And seeing as how we have no way back, I guess the answer is now." Taking a deep breath, she marched onwards, their footsteps in the sand behind them disappearing almost instantly.
They continued to walk for what seemed like ages, and Lexi was left wondering why things seemed so peaceful. She had expected to come across something dangerous long before this. For some reason, it felt like the calm between two storms. Something was sure to pop up soon.
And sure enough, just before they had reached the base of the cliff, an eerie mist hovered before them. It seemed to last only for a few feet, but extended infinitely to either side. It seemed heavier, and more dense than normal fog, and she glanced at Brandon, wondering what to do.

Lexi met Brandon's gaze and frowned deeply. Suddenly, he felt a wave of cold, pure terror come over him. He saw in a distance a small mass of hooded figures, patrolling the ruins. "Dementors," he whispered, pointing to the mass. "What now?"

"Well, there's only one thing we can do, right?" said Lexi, as if the answer were obvious. "Think of a happy thought, and do our worst." Her head held high, despite the coldness that had washed over her, she ventured forward into the fog, her wand at the ready.

"But-But..." Brandon said quietly. Dementors were Brandon's greatest weakness. He could do nothing to harm them. Everytime he got near them, he fainted and became food for the dementor's kiss, though it had never been inflicted on him. "I c-can't," he said shaking. "You'll have to do this on your own."

Lexi glanced back at him, exhausted, though just nodded. He had conquered the snakes on his own; she owed him the favor.
The dementors had just seemed to realize their presence, and, all at once, swarmed slowly towards the two of them. Brandon's word held true as he fainted, passed out cold on the sand, and Lexi glared, determined to push all bad thoughts from her mind. However, it was already becoming a struggle to do.
When you got accepted into school, as Quidditch Captain to boot. Think about when you were accepted into Knockwood. Forcing herself to keep that thought foremost in her mind, she found the cold within her lessening. Instead, she was filled with a small amount of warmth, and she used it to her fullest advantage.
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!" she shouted, her hair whipping around her face at the power coming forth from the tip of her wand. A shining falcon burst suddenly from her wand, flapping its wings as it beat the dementors away, and, slowly but surely, they retreated.
After a few moments, when they had all disappeared, Lexi knelt down and shook Brandon gently. "Come on, they're gone now. Wake up."
