Maggie sat secluded at the Everard dinner table. It was too early for most students to be eating dinner, but Thurdays were when Maggie had the least classes. After a day of what Herbology majors affectionately refer to as "playing in the dirt," Maggie was exhausted. Unfortunately, today was they day they were pulling out adustums. If you were a Herbology major, "adustum" was the dirtiest word in your vocabulary. Stubborn, and known to spontaneously combust, adustums were evil weeds that destroyed gardens and farms. With roots that grew deep, they were hard to pull out; and there was always the chance that you could get burned. One poor girl had to go to the infirmary due to severe burns. So after an hour or more, the Herbology majors, singed and covered in dirt, trudged back to the castle. Maggie went straight to the showers. Clean, and refreshed Maggie now ate a well-deserved grilled cheese sandwich. Her still damp, wavy hair was in a high ponytail, and she wore her favorite ripped jeans, and a plain white t-shirt. With her sandwich in one hand, and a newspaper (delived by her otter) in the other, Maggie read through the first two pages of news, and paused at the advertisements. There was a new broom coming out. Usually Maggie wouldn't care, but now that she was a chaser, things like that started to matter. The Twisted Sister's were coming out with a new joke product. Maggie made a note to check it out later. And so that went on, and Maggie was so intent on her reading, that she didn't hear the sound of footsteps behind her.

Lexi walked over to the girl, her long, straight brown hair rufflled. In fact, her whole appearance was dishevled; her clothes were wrinkled, the books in her hands, in disarray. Sinking into the chair opposite of her, she immediately placed her forehead on the cold table, making no mention of the girl at all.

Jumping slightly at the sound of "forehead hitting table," Maggie tore her eyes away her newspaper, and found her best friend sitting next to her in a sad state. Instinctly she ran over next to her and put her hand on the girl's back, "Lexi, what happend to you?" She asked, her voice calm, but concerned. Her mind was trying to find a reason for her friend's messy appearance. Had she been in a fight? Was she attacked? On God, could she have possibly been raped? Maggie's concern hightened, as she awaited an answer.

Lexi kept her forehead resting on the table, and couldn't help but giggle at Maggie's obvious concern.
Lexi? Giggle? It was odd in and of itself, and probably said something about the state she was in. "Relax Maggie, I'm just tired. Spent the whole night trying to determine what the stars are saying about the upcoming events, and so far, it's not looking so good." At this, she picked up her head and looked at her friend, the darkened circles prominent under her deep green eyes. "Of course, I could be wrong. I am only a student..."

Maggie let out a breath, relaxing a bit. She felt a bit silly for worrying "So, is it bad as in, apocolypse bad? Or will there be an outbreak of dragon pox?" She reached over to get her sandwich. Thinking a little bit, she shrugged. "Whatever happens, happens." She simply stated. "It's not like we can do anything about. We just have to deal with it." She looked to Lexi, and heartedly patted her back. "It's ok Lex. We'll just carry about Beater bats with us, and until our futures brighten." She said, deciding Lexi needed some serious cheering up.

Lexi grinned weakly, imagining Maggie and her walking around, swinging beater bats in time with their steps. "Really bad. Of course, not nearly as bad as the apocolypse, though from what I can tell, it may very well be close. A new leader will come into power."
She shrugged, trying to make it seem like it wasn't really bothering her. So what if someone new would take over? It could do well to see a new face in charge. She grabbed an apple and twirled it absentmindedly on the plate in front of her. "Yeah. Whatever happens, happens."

Maggie wasn't really bothered by this. Her history with Divination, usually made her tend not to believe it. She could tell under the pretense, Lexi was actually bothered by this. Deciding that she didn't know enough about Divination to judge, Maggie continued to eat her sandwich, now only slightly more bothered than before.
Thinking it'd be nice for a change of subject, Maggie brought up the only thing that she knew Lexi would definitely repsond to.
"So, have you figured out a new strategy for our Quidditch team?"

Lexi's eyes lit up at the mention of Quidditch, and she nodded, all dark thoughts of the future forgotten in her mind. It was the one thing she knew would always remain fun for her, and it filled her mind with only joy and excitement.
"Plenty! I've got loads of plays for us, and I've been looking through past Quidditch books, so I've got a few moves I'd like the team in general to try out, particurally our Keeper, if we ever get one. And there are quite a few fakes and rolls I'd like to give a shot as well, as I've been watching the other teams practice, and their techniques are mostly about speed. If we have the moves, there'll be no contest as for who will win."
She was talking very fast, she knew, which happened every time someone get her excited. Quidditch, along with Divination, was her passion, and a fire had sparked in her eyes that hadn't been there moments before.

Maggie listened patiently, attempting to follow along. She never thought it possible to talk so fast. It was as if someone injected Lexi with pure caffiene. Where did this energy come from? She was tired a few seconds ago. Maggie decided this was one of those mysteries she would never understand about her friend. Maggie wondered how a Divination major would have such a passion for Quidditch. Divination was such a vague, abstract subject. It seemed a Divination major would have an interest in something like ... art. Quidditch was all precision, skill, strategy. Someone who loved Arithmancy would probably find Quidditch interesting. Again, Maggie decided this was just one of the mysteries of Lexi. When Lexi was finally done, Maggie realized she would probably want a repsonse. Not knowing what to say, she just nodded, "Cool."

"I can't wait, I'm going to schedule a practice soon, you're going to enjoy it. You've never been to a practice before, right? Well, of course you haven't, I mean, you've never played Quidditch before, up until the day I taught you and you signed up for the team. Don't worry, it'll be great, you'll have fun." she assured her, then relaxed a bit, knowing that if she kept this pace up, Maggie would soon have no idea what she was saying. Then again, maybe she had already lost her.
"Sorry." she said, laughing a bit. "I get a bit excited when Quidditch comes up..."

As Lexi started talking agian, this time maybe even faster than before, Maggie struggled to understand what she was talking about. Eventually Maggie found herself completely lost, and she just stared, blinking as Lexi rambled and made large hand gestures. When Lexi finally finished her monologue, Maggie continued to stare, and than nodded again. "Uhh ... yeah ... totally." Than then she laughed along with Lexi, as Lexi apologized. "It's ok. Just umm ... speak a tinsy but slower." she said, indicating about a millimeter with her thumb and finger. "Just a bit."

Lexi laughed again, nodding. "Basically, all i said was that I'm scheduling a practice soon, and you'll have fun." she explained, talking much slower this time, to ensure that Maggie understood everything.

"Right. Cool." Maggie laughed again, just because talking to Lexi put her in a good mood. Finishing her sandwich, she wiped her hands of crumbs. Swallowing, she asked. "So how's life? Do you like anybody?" She cast Lexi a teasing glance.

Lexi rolled her eyes, though stayed silent for a moment. Did she like anyone? It was a very good question. Finally, she shrugged. "I don't know, honestly... I've met a few guys that seem interesting. One almost had me convinced that he was a vampire." she paused, grinning at the memory. "But I don't know if I'd go as far as to say I fancy them. What about you, though?"

Noticing her mistake Maggie shrugged, seeming casual. She should have realized that the question would bounce right back to her. "I haven't exactly met anyone. I met Alex on the beach. He seemed nice ..." And funny, and interesting, her mind thought. "But I don't exactly know him. Other than that, I haven't really met any guys." She moved her gaze to a plate of french fries. Just to avoid eye contact, she reached over and grabbed a fry.
